1. The hottest London day of the year, a full moon and a thunderstorm may have been factors in
2. Her birth team is led by Marcus Setchell, who served for almost two decades as the Queen’s surgeon and gynaecologist and has delivered several royals as well as Tony Blair and Cherie Booth’s fourth child, Leo.
The Prince of Cambridge, George Alexander Louis, and his parents, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, as they left hospital.

3. Unless there are complications, it is understood that no medical details of the delivery will be released.
4. By custom, earlier royal births were witnessed by the interior minister, in order to ensure that the heir was legitimate. Luckily for Kate, this tradition ended in 1936.
5. Once the baby has been delivered, Prince William will reportedly make a call to the Queen on an encrypted phone. At the same time members of the royal family and the Middleton family will be told of the birth. The Palace will also inform the UK government, the Archbishop of Canterbury and the governors-general of the realms, including Australia.
Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge.
6. To notify the public, the medical team will sign a formal notice that will be taken by car to Buckingham Palace. The notice will also reveal the baby’s gender. The formal notice will then be placed, according to time-worn tradition, on a wooden easel in the Buckingham Palace forecourt. The placement of the notice on the easel marks the moment that the birth is "officially" announced – and at that point the palace will also release the news via Twitter and other electronic media. The same easel was used to announce William’s birth, though for some other royal births the notice has been chained to the palace railings.
7. A 41-gun salute from London's Green Park and 62 cannon blasts from the Tower of London will also mark the arrival of the new royal heir.
8. The baby will be third in line to the throne. (Prince Harry has been bumped to fourth in line.)
9. The baby does not necessarily need to have a surname - but if William and Kate want him to have one, they can choose between Mountbatten-Windsor, Wales and Cambridge. The baby's official title will be His Royal Highness, The Prince of Cambridge.
10. Genealogists say the baby will be distantly related to Dracula, the 15th century prince who inspired Bram Stoker's famous vampire. Experts have also traced the family tree back to an Islamic sultan who is believed to be descended from the Prophet Mohammed.
11. World landmarks including Niagara Falls, Toronto's CN Tower and the fountains at London's Trafalgar Square will turn pink or blue to celebrate the birth, depending on whether it is a girl or boy.
12. When William was born in 1982, his mother Princess Diana fooled the press by telling them her son was due on July 1 - he arrived 10 days earlier, catching the newspapers completely off guard.
13. The bookmakers' favourite names are Alexandra for a girl and George for a boy. But you could win big if William and Kate opt for one of the unlikelier choices - Prince Wayne, for example, has odds of 500/1.
14. Finland has gifted William and Kate with a special 'baby box' received by all expectant mothers in the Nordic country, which includes infant clothing, bra pads and even condoms.
15. Former Australian prime minister Julia Gillard has knitted a kangaroo for the baby.
Bonus fact: According to UK's Find My Past genealogy website, the royal baby will be 23rd cousins twice removed with Blue Ivy Carter, the daughter of Beyonce and Jay Z.
